Mor Kali (Mor Koozh) is a traditional recipe made using butter milk and rice flour. We can use it for the breakfast or for the evening tiffen. Its a dish which can be made very quickly. We can make it like upma or we can cut this mor kali in pieces and serve.

  1. Get 1/2 cup rice flour
  2. Take 2 1/2 cup buttermilk

  7. Get 2 dry red chilies, broken
  8. Make ready 1/4 tsp asafoetida

  11. Get 1 sprig curry leaves
  12. Get 3-4 slit green chilies
  13. Make ready 1 tsp coriander leaves chopped
  14. Get as needed tomato chutney
  15. Get as needed coconut chutney
  16. Make ready as needed idli podi to serve

Whenever my mom asks me what to make for breakfast, the entire family's voice will be either mor koozh or puli upma or rava upma. How simple it will be for my mom with such non fussy kids !!. Mor kali is one of my childhood favorite that mom makes. More than me my bro is great fan of this.

Steps to make Mor Kali:
  1. In a bowl, whisk together rice flour, buttermilk and salt. Keep aside. Heat oil in a pan and temper with mustard seeds, cumin seeds and whole dry red chilies. Allow it to splutter.
  2. Add chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, green chilies and asafoetida. Saute for a few seconds and add the rice-buttermilk mix.
  3. Keep stirring continuously on a medium flame till it gets thick and leaves the sides of the pan.
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with tomato chutney, coconut chutney or some idli podi (Gun powder) sprinkled over it.

Mor kali is one of my childhood favorite that mom makes. More than me my bro is great fan of this. We call it mor koozh, and we eat it as such without pouring in a plate. Just in a koozh (which means a non sticky thick porridge kind) form so we call it koozh. Mor Kazhi or Kali is a very simple, delicious and nutritious porridge.
