It is a staple dish in South Indian homes and is also equally popular and loved by many. At the end of this time, squeeze and press the tamarind with your fingers to release as much pulp in the water as possible, then strain, discard the fibrous residue and seeds, and reserve the tamarind water. The speciality of this sambhar is that it is made with minimal oil and loads of vegetables which enhance its nutritive value.

The ingredients needed to make Sambhar:
  1. Take 1 cup tuvar Dal
  2. Prepare 1 cup chopped vegetables (potato, onion, cauliflower, carrot,beans etc)

  5. Take 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  6. Take 3 green chilli
  7. Take 4 cup water

  10. Take For Tadka
  11. Make ready 1 tsp oil
  12. Take 1/4 tsp mustard seed
  13. Prepare 5-6 Curry leaves
  14. Prepare 2 dry red chilli

It is basically a spicy Lentil Stew with Mixed Vegetables that is served as a side dish with Dosa, Idli, Vada, or Rice. Steps to make Sambhar:
  1. In a cooker add Dal,all vegetables and water.then add salt and Turmeric powder.cover with lid and wait for two whistles.
  2. Now open the lid and bring it to boil.now add all other spices.mix well.add sambhar masala and tamarind puree.stir it.boil it for ten minutes at medium flame.
  3. Now in a pan add oil and mustard seeds.then add curry leaves and dry red chilli.
  4. Add all tadka in the sambhar.our sambhar is ready to serve hot with rice.
