In Tamil "pongal" means "bubbling up". In Telugu and Kannada, pongali is a dish of rice mixed with boiled milk and sugar.

The ingredients needed to make Pongal:
  1. Make ready 1 glass yellow moong dhal
  2. Prepare 1/2 glass basmati rice

  6. Get 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  7. Make ready to taste Salt
  8. Make ready 1 handful Curry pata

Steps to make Pongal:
  1. First keep all these ingredients ready on a plate then grind the coconut in a small jar keep aside. In a small pan add oil jeera pepper ginger green chilli curry leaves hing and curry pata.
  2. Grind the coconut to this texture.
  3. Now wash the moong dhal and rice 3 times add six glasses of water and add the tadka and coconut to it. Do not add salt at this stage.
  4. Pressure cook it for seven whistle let it cool and take it out. Then mix well till they are mushy. Add salt at this stage, serve hot with onion raita.
