  1. Get 1 bunch spinach leaves finely chopped
  2. Take 1 cup toor dal

  6. Prepare 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  7. Get 3/4 tsp red chilli powder

Palak Dal is nothing but dal temperd with Palak tadka but that process is long and honestly not as tasty as the one I am about to share with you. I am going to prepare this Dal by first preparing the tadka of onion, ginger, garlic, palak (Spinach) and tomatoes then adding Dal to it. Dal Palak or Spinach Dal is a very simple yet delicious Indian dish made with lentils, spinach, and seasoned with few spices.

Steps to make Palak dal:
  1. Clean wash the spinach or palak leaves and finely chop them.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add 1 cup of toor dal and 3 cups of water.
  3. Now add 1 bowl of finely chopped palak leaves to pressure cooker.
  4. Add tamarind, curry leaves, green chilli and 1 tsp of oil and mix well.
  5. Make sure all the palak leaves are properly dipped in the water.
  6. Add a cup of water if required. - Close the lid of pressure cooker and cook it for 5 whistles.
  7. Once the pressure from cooker releases, open the lid and smash the dal well. Simmer it in low flame.
  8. Now add turmeric, chilli powder and salt.
  9. Mix it properly and keep it aside.
  10. In a frying pan take some oil and add all the seasoning ingredients.
  11. Once the garlic turns golden brown, mix the seasoning ingredients to palak dal.
  12. Give a good stir to palak dal.
  13. Your palak dal is ready. serve with hot steamed rice or with rotis.
