  13. Take As per taste Salt
  14. Take Handful Curry leaves

This simple protein rich dish is served with plain rice, chapati/ roti or different kinds of bhakri (flatbreads). Palak Dal is nothing but dal temperd with Palak tadka but that process is long and honestly not as tasty as the one I am about to share with you. I am going to prepare this Dal by first preparing the tadka of onion, ginger, garlic, palak (Spinach) and tomatoes then adding Dal to it. Dal Palak or Spinach Dal is a very simple yet delicious Indian dish made with lentils, spinach, and seasoned with few spices.

Instructions to make Dal Palak:
  1. Dal cooking.
  2. Pick and wash the lentils. Take the lentils in a pressure cooker with turmeric powder.
  3. Add 2 to 2.5 cups of water and pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles or till the dals become soft and mushy.
  4. Mash the dals and keep aside.
  5. For Palak–
  6. In a pan, heat ghee. Fry the cumin and then add the chopped ginger and fry till the raw aroma of ginger goes away.
  7. Add the chopped chili and fry for half a minute. Fry for a minute.Add the chopped spinach. Add red chili powder and asafoetida (hing).
  8. Saute for some minutes till the spinach becomes soft and stops releasing water on a medium flame.
  9. Now add the mashed lentils now. Mix the lentils with the spinach.
  10. Add water around ½ cup to 1 cup depending on how thick or thin you want the dal to be.Finally, add salt and simmer the dal for 5 to 6 minutes. Garnish with curry leaves.
  11. Serve dal palak hot with rice.
