The ingredients needed to make Dal  Masoori:
  1. Take 3/4 cup Masoor Dal
  2. Take 2.5 cups Water
  3. Prepare 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  4. Get 3 tsp sesame oil
  5. Take 1/2 tsp each mustard seeds and cumin seeds
  6. Get 1 sprig curry leaves
  7. Make ready pinch asafoetida
  8. Prepare 2 nos med size onion finely chopped
  9. Prepare 2 nos tomatoes roughly chopped
  10. Get to taste salt
  11. Prepare coriander leaves for garnishing
  12. Get lemon juice and zest
  13. Get For Masala Paste
  14. Prepare 6 nos garlic, peeled
  15. Prepare thumb size ginger
  16. Take 3 nos Green chilli
  17. Get 1 tsp coriander seeds
  18. Prepare 1 tsp cumin seeds
  19. Get 15-20 nos peppercorns

Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender and soupy. Lentils, also known as Dal or Dhal are a mini legumes. They are a good source of protein, fiber and minerals. There are many varieties of lentils such as yellow (moong and toor), green (moong), red (masoor), brown (whole masoor) and black (urad) lentils.

Instructions to make Dal  Masoori:
  1. In a saucepan wash and rinse your masoor dal and add the water and turmeric powder and boil it(2-3 whistle in pressure cooker) until cooked but not mushy.
  2. Meanwhile start chopping your onion and tomato. Also in a mortal pestle add everything mentioned under the masala paste and grind to a paste like consistency.
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Give tadka (seasoning) of mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing and curry leaves let it splutter and add in the onions, saute until light pink. Add tomatoes and cook it until soft and mushy.
  4. Add the masala paste and cook until raw smell goes. - - In goes the cooked dal along with the water in which it was boiling.
  5. Mix everything well and let it boil for 10 mins. Add in handful of coriander leaves and salt to taste. Mix and boil for another 5 mins. Add lemon zest and mix.
  6. Serve hot along with rice, lemon wedge, pickle and papad.
