Idli sambar is a tasty & delicious hotel style tiffin sambar that is served with idli.

The ingredients needed to make Idli Sambhar:

  2. Get 2 cups tur / arhar dal
  3. Take 1 cup vegetables (bottle gourd, brinjal, ivy gourds, drumsticks, pumpkin)

  5. Prepare 3 tomatoes
  6. Make ready 2 tsp sambar masala
  7. Take to taste Salt
  8. Take 2 tsp red chilli powder
  9. Get 1 tsp turmeric powder
  10. Make ready 2 tsp jaggery
  11. Make ready 2 tsp lemon juice
  12. Take For Tempering-
  13. Get 2 tsp oil
  14. Take 1/4 tsp split mung dal
  15. Get as required curry leaves

  17. Make ready 500 grams idli batter
  18. Prepare to taste Salt
  19. Prepare For chutney-
  20. Take 1 cup dry grated coconut
  21. Prepare 2 spoons chopped onion
  22. Make ready 2-3 Garlic cloves
  23. Make ready 2 spoons dahi
  24. Make ready 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  25. Make ready 7-8 curry leaves
  26. Get to taste Salt
  27. Make ready 2 spoons roasted chana daal
  28. Take For tomato chutney-
  29. Get 3 Chopped tomatoes
  30. Get 1 chopped onion
  31. Prepare 1/4 cup chickpeas
  32. Take 2 spoons urad dal
  33. Get 1 spoon grated coconut
  34. Make ready 1 spoon groundnut
  35. Take 7-8 curry leaves
  36. Prepare 5-6 red chillies

Step by step photos: Firstly prepare sambar powder by roasting all the spices required and then grinding them into fine powder. Heat oil in a wok and add mustard seeds. Once they start spluttering add curry leaves,dry red chillies,asafoetida and garlic cloves. Fry well and add roughly chopped shallots.

Instructions to make Idli Sambhar:
  1. For making sambhar, boil vegetables and toor dal in pressure cooker. Chopped tomato and onions. Take pan add oil and put it on flame. Add split mungbean and Curry leaves. Now add tomato and onions. Saute for 5-10 minutes. Add salt,red chilli powder, turmeric powder, sambhar masala. Saute for another 5 minutes. Meanwhile, smash toor dal and vegetables with blender (in cooker). Now add water in toor dam and vegetables (in cooker) and put on flame to boil. Add sauted tomato and onions into cooker.
  2. To make idli, first preheat steamer. Now add salt and little bit water in batter. Grease idli dish. Pour batter into it. Steam for 10-15 minutes.
  3. To make chutney, mix all ingredients of chutney and grind them in mixer. For tempering, heat oil and add mustard seeds, split mung bean and Curry leaves. After spluttering pour on chutney.
  4. To make tomato chutney, mix all the ingredients of tomato chutney and roast them for 10-15 minutes. Now blend all the ingredients in mixing jar with adding water.

Once they start spluttering add curry leaves,dry red chillies,asafoetida and garlic cloves. Fry well and add roughly chopped shallots. Idli Sambar are a typical South Indian breakfast that has become popular across the globe for it's soft spongy Idlis and lipsmackingly delicious Sambar. The Idlis are savory rice cakes that are steamed using fermented lentil and rice batter. Sambar is the tangy spicy vegetable lentil soup in which the Idli's are dunk.
