Idli sambar is a tasty & delicious hotel style tiffin sambar that is served with idli.

The ingredients needed to make Idli sambar:
  1. Make ready 3 Cups Idli rice
  2. Prepare 1 cup urad dal
  3. Prepare 1 tsp methi seeds

  6. Get 2 cups tuvar dal
  7. Get 1 cup mix veggies (bringal, tomato, onion, drumsticks)
  8. Prepare 1 tsp haldi
  9. Get 2 tsp oil
  10. Prepare 2 tsp Sambar masala
  11. Take 1 tsp chilli powder
  12. Prepare 5-6 curry leaves
  13. Prepare 1 tsp mustard seeds
  14. Make ready 1 green chilli
  15. Make ready 1 tsp cumin seeds

The recipe is served in the entire India as a street food as well as in high end restaurants. Idli is steamed and is high in protein and so is sambar, the concoction of lentils and veggies. Idli Sambar aka Tiffin Sambar is a recipe from my Mom in law. This is a no-dal recipe and it is so easy to make.

Instructions to make Idli sambar:
  1. For batter wash and soak urad dal, methi seeds, rice flakes, idil rice for 8 hours soak then grind smooth paste mix (remove soak water)and mix it with hand and cover keep for over night for fermentation.
  2. Heat steamer & grease idil moulds & pour a spoonful of batter (add to taste salt) and steam for 10-12 min cool while remove for moulds and Idli are ready.
  3. Pressure cooker dal with all veggies add turmeric powder & oil for 2 whistles heat pan add oil mustard seeds, cumin seeds, green chilli, curry leaves, add cooked dal and veggies, mix well add sambar masala, chilli powder, to taste salt, cook till boils.
  4. In serving plate arrange idil sambar and enjoy it.

Idli Sambar aka Tiffin Sambar is a recipe from my Mom in law. This is a no-dal recipe and it is so easy to make. Sambar, a hot and spicy lentil soup with mixed vegetables, is a must have accompaniment for popular South Indian breakfast and lunch recipes like Idli, Dosa, Medu Vada, Steamed Rice etc. It is very simple and also tastes great with both idli and dosa. You can do this with or without the vegetables.
