You can serve this flavorful & delicious tiffin sambar with Soft idli, Instant Rava idli, medu vada, khara pongal, Crispy dosa, masala dosa and most other tiffins. Idli sambar is a tasty & delicious hotel style tiffin sambar that is served with idli.

The ingredients needed to make Idli Sambhar:
  1. Prepare For Idlis-
  2. Make ready 2 cups idli rice
  3. Get 3 1/2 cups water
  4. Take 1 tsp Baking soda
  5. Take For Sambhar-
  6. Make ready 2 tablespoons sambhar masala
  7. Prepare 2-4 curry leaves
  8. Take to taste Salt according
  9. Get 1 tablespoon chilli powder
  10. Get 1 cup arhar dal

Step by step photos: Firstly prepare sambar powder by roasting all the spices required and then grinding them into fine powder. Heat oil in a wok and add mustard seeds. Once they start spluttering add curry leaves,dry red chillies,asafoetida and garlic cloves. Fry well and add roughly chopped shallots.

Instructions to make Idli Sambhar:
  1. For Idlis: Soak rice overnight then next day add ½ cup water in it and grind it.Then add salt according to it, then rest the batter for 12-15 mins then add a pinch of baking soda. - Now put the batter in the idli steamer in the medium flame. Keep it for 15 mins and idlis are ready. Serve hot.
  2. For Sambhar: Add 3-4 tablespoons of oil then add mustard seeds, curry leaves, salt, sambhar powder and chilli powder. Cook it for 5 mins and add arhar dall in it. Let it cook for 20 mins. Serve hot with idli.
