Chilli Idli is an Indo-Chinese fusion dish, there are verities of idlis in South India, chili idli is an entirely different one from all those traditional idlis. This can be done with the leftover idli or cold idli, do not use hot idlis, perhaps it is not suitable for chili idli.

The ingredients needed to make Chilli idly:
  1. Take 3 idli
  2. Prepare 1 large onion
  3. Get 2 green chilli
  4. Make ready 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  5. Make ready 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  6. Prepare 1/2 tbsp chilli powder
  7. Get to taste salt
  8. Make ready as needed Oil
  9. Prepare as needed curry leaves
  10. Make ready as needed Coriander leaves

Dip each idli cubes in this and deep fry till golden. Add in onions and fry till golden brown. Add in tomatoes and mix well. Add in tomato puree and cook till oil separates.

Instructions to make Chilli idly:
  1. Cut the idly into medium size pieces
  2. Heat oil in a frying pan and deep fry the idly until it turns golden
  3. Heat oil add ginger garlic paste, curry leaves and green chilli.. Saute it
  4. Now add finely chopped onions saute well until it's colour change
  5. Now add salt, tomato ketchup, chilli powder.. Mix it well
  6. Add fried idly mix well until it coat all the ingredients
  7. Finally garnish with coriander leaves
  8. Ready to serve with evening tea

Add in tomatoes and mix well. Add in tomato puree and cook till oil separates. This chilli idli is a delicious and flavorful snack where deep fried idlis are tossed in a very flavorful onion-tomato based masala along with bell pepper cubes. This is somewhat similar to Indo chinese chilli potato, chilli paneer etc but no sauce is used in this recipe. For an indo chinese version you can try idli manchurian recipe.
